The Give Where You Live Campaign is a national effort to support food cooperatives across the U.S. in building local Cooperative Community Funds.
Sponsored by the Twin Pines Cooperative Foundation, each fund will serve as a means for co-op members and shoppers to make donations to an endowment that donates to local non-profit organizations.
The interest earned by each Fund will be given annually to local groups working on issues relating to sustainable agriculture and organic food, hunger and social issues, environmental protection and cooperatives.
The Give Where You Live Campaign represents each Co-op's special effort to give back to those deserving--and hard working--groups that build community.
Give Where You Live! Because great organizations begin here.
Founded in 1988, Weaver Street Market is a three location natural foods cooperative focused on providing a wide selection of organic, fair trade, and locally grown products. We work directly with local farmers to provide the freshest produce, milk and dairy products, and humanely raised meat at an affordable price. Our breads and pastries are baked fresh in our bakery every morning, and our hot bar, salad bar, and grab-and-go meals prepared daily to take home or enjoy with us in our indoor café and outdoor patio.
All of our profits are returned to owners, donated to our community, or used to strengthen the cooperative.
Weaver Street Market’s Cooperative Community Fund is funded primarily through our biannual wine shows at each of our three locations, in which a portion of the cost of every ticket is donated directly to the CCF. The fund also grows through our Hope for the Holidays program, in which a portion of the purchase price of specially marked gift items throughout the store goes to support community nonprofit groups, some directly and some through the CCF. Owners who are leaving the area and wish to sell back their ownership share have the option of donating all or a portion of the cost to the CCF, and we have also received some direct contributions to the fund from owners.
A dedicated committee of worker and consumer owners meets each Fall to review applications from local nonprofits working in the areas of sustainable agriculture, environmental protection, hunger and malnutrition, and cooperatives. Our winning nonprofits are recognized at our Annual Meeting with the presentation of checks, and presented to our larger community through our annual report, press releases, and our website.
We see our Cooperative Community Fund growing rapidly to become a large factor in the achievement of our co-op’s mission to be a vibrant, sustainable commercial center. And in joining with other Cooperative Community Funds, we help each other to build stronger communities nationwide.
